5 Questions to Set Yourself Up for Success
I originally wrote this article in time for the start of the new year, but you can use these questions as a framework for reviewing your progress at any time. Ask yourself these questions as you reflect on your progress to date and to plan for whatโs next for you:
List as many things you can that youโre proud of yourself for. If you find it hard to list one, list 20!
Why? Because many of us donโt give ourselves credit for the things that weโve achieved. And when you focus on things youโre proud of, youโll give yourself a feel-good boost of dopamine which will encourage you to do more.
โฃI donโt believe you should wallow in regret, but itโs likely that some things havenโt gone as planned in the past. Take an objective look back and acknowledge your part in what happened. Taking responsibility for your results keeps you out of victim/blame mode and allows you to consider what to do differently next time.
โฃThereโs learning everywhere. Specifically focusing on your learning supports you to have a growth mindset and helps you know what to replicate for success and what to change next time for improvement.
Take stock of everything in your life that youโre grateful for. People youโve met, opportunities youโve had, places youโve been, lessons youโve learned...you can be grateful for anything. Gratitude has a range of benefits for your physicalโฃand emotional well-being and allows you to re-frame and re-focus.
๐ช๐ก๐๐ญ ๐๐ฆ ๐ ๐๐จ๐ฆ๐ฆ๐ข๐ญ๐ญ๐๐ ๐ญ๐จ this year (or this week or even today)?
Get yourself intentional about what you desire this year. What are you committed to being, doing or achieving now and over this coming year? Why is this important to you?
Begin to focus your mind on this so you can start the year, the week or even the day with intention. You donโt even need to know the how just yet - start by getting clear on the what and the why.
Use these five questions to help you see your past from a different perspective and to take yourself forward with intention. Set aside some quiet time to reflect, or better still, write out your answers and reflections.
