Do you want your dreams more than you want your drama?
“You have to want your dreams more than you want your drama”
Jen Sincero
Why does this statement feel both true and jarring?
To me, the uncomfortable part is the notion of ‘wanting' drama. I don't want drama!
Or do I…?
Sometimes we find ourselves stuck in looping patterns of behavior, or stuck in situations we don’t like and can’t seem to get out of. And despite telling ourselves we want things to change, often we don’t take action.
For instance, imagine I hate my job and I complain about it but stay there for years, never looking for another job. That’s an example of drama.
I could tell myself that I really do want a different job and a dream career, but do I want it enough to be uncomfortable and put myself out into the job market?
If I prefer to stay where I am then I want my drama more than my dreams.
If I choose to take action to get a new job, I want my dreams more than my drama.
It’s easy to believe that current circumstances are out of our control and that we don't want them. The truth is, we don’t generally do things or stay in situations unless they’re in some way benefiting us. We might not believe there's a benefit, but at some level what you do or don't do is serving your needs or protecting you.
So if you're not taking action to make a change, check in with yourself: do you want your dreams more than your drama?
