Thoughts about your thoughts

Do you have a tendency to let your thoughts run away with themselves?  Do you ever find yourself worrying about things that might not even happen?  Do you spend time and energy thinking thoughts that are neither resourceful nor productive?

I get it, it’s an easy thing to do.  Our brains are masterful at creating meaning and making up stories, and we have an amazing capacity to imagine.

But you don’t have to board every single train of thought that pulls up.  Some of them are far better left to continue on their own way without you.

Today’s tip is very simple:

Day 20 image.jpg

When you start paying attention to your thoughts it becomes possible for you to decide whether they are thoughts that you actually want to think.

So before you get caught up in a thought and allow it to run away with itself, pause for a moment and take a look at where it might take you

Will it bring you joy?

Will it help you do what you want to do?

Is it supportive and in your best interests?

If the answer is no, then let it go, and find a new train of thought to board.  One that’s going to take you somewhere you actually want to go.

Go well,

Ruth
